Current solutions to tackle phishing employ blocklists that are built from user reports or automatic approaches. They, however, fall short in detecting zero-day phishing attacks. We propose the use of data-driven systems to automate the generation of new squatting candidates starting from a list of targets. The candidates can be either manually verified or become part of a training set for existing machine learning models. Our results show that AI can produce squatting candidates, some of which are previously unknown existing phishing domains.
Biography: Rodolfo Vieira Valentim has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering at Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES). Also, at UFES, he obtained his master’s degree in Informatics. In 2015, he was awarded a fully-funded scholarship to spend one year at the Hanze Institute of Technology in the Netherlands as an exchange student. His research interests are Software-Defined Networks, Data Center Networks, Cloud Computing, Network Security, Artificial Intelligence, and Anomaly Detection. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Marco Mellia and Idilio Drago, conducting his research at ET / SmartData@PoliTo Center. His research aims an AI-assisted approach for network security based on multiple darknets and honeypots.
