Alessandro Laio took his PhD in condensed matter physics in 1999. He is working in Sissa since 2006, where he is at the moment full professor in the Statistical and Biological Physics group. He is also the president of CECAM, Lausanne. His research work is mainly focused on the development of techniques aimed at simulating rare events, chemical reactions and conformational transitions in complex many body systems. He is also an expert of clustering and classification techniques. He has published 115 articles in international peer-reviewed journals.
