Below we provide the lists of public profiles followed on Instagram.
As for politicians, we considered the profiles that are “verified” directly by Instagram (https://help.instagram.com/854227311295302). In this way, we avoided following fake profiles that could have influenced the impartiality of the results. Some profiles with many followers who seemed truthful, even though they had not been verified, were entered but are reported as ” not verified”.
For non-political profiles, we relied on lists of top public profiles and categories provided by https://hypeauditor.com/. We then selected from these profiles that spoke in the official language of the country (Italian for Italy, German for Germany).
